Golf & Country Club. Golfers, residents and their guests can

exercise rooms, library, pool and hot tub, from anywhere in the
Clubhouse. There is a lounge area in the lobby, along with the
front desk, an ATM machine, bulletin board and sign-up table.
Residents: Don't forget to fill out your updated CERT form and
drop it off in the box on the sign-up table.

Check the bulletin boards to keep up with announcements,

Lobby, outside the Pro Shop and scattered elsewhere near the

SOT project fulfills troops’ wishes
Do You Know Someone
Stationed in the Middle East?
By Dave Potvin
Director of Activities
Thanks to resident Gene Hedstrom, I recently had the
opportunity to meet Bob Williams, founder of Support
Our Troops (SOT) in Wesley Chapel. SOT sends out
about 215 boxes each week to U.S. military units in Iraq,
Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar and Kyrgyzstan. Every day
Bob receives wish lists from troops either via email or
through their families or friends. He makes every effort
to fulfill these requests.
Basic items we take for granted can make a significant
difference in the quality of life of our service personnel
deployed in combat zones and remote locations.
Receiving an unexpected box of goodies can be a
tremendous morale booster for those so far from home.
The packages sent out by SOT contain a variety of
items popular with the troops, including coffee, snack
foods, batteries, DVDs and personal toiletries. Some of
these goods are donated by local businesses and
organizations; others Bob must purchase to meet the
need. He says SOT is delighted to work with any
business or group interested in having a drive to collect
items or to raise funds for postage.
This is an ongoing project for SOT, which continues to
seek help with increasing postage expenses. The cost to
ship one box can range from $20 to $45, depending on
the contents and the APO or FPO address to which it is
sent.
Postage costs alone, says Bob, run more than $8,000
each month.
SOT always has boxes packed and ready to ship out,
but often lacks the necessary funds to send them.
SOT requests that any monetary contributions be made
payable to "Postmaster," as every penny given will go
directly to cover postage; contributions can be dropped
off conveniently at the Community Center.
In addition, any Tampa Bay resident who has a relative
or friend serving in the Middle East, can drop off their
name and APO/FPO address to the Community Center
as well.
I will see to it that they are put on SOT’s list to receive a
package.
Thank you for your help.

Friends at Tampa Bay Golf & Country Club Dining Mgr. Mike Penn is recovering from major surgery on his stomach. In two months, Mike must have another operation to finish this procedure. We hope to have Mike back in November if all goes well. During this time Mike will have limited access to funds to pay his day-to-day and large medical bills. If you would like to help Mike, we will be collecting donations at the front desk. We appreciate anything you can do to help out during this difficult time.
