From the pro: Pace of play to be enforced
By Tom McKone
As the sumer months come to an end and winter weather comes
blowing in, more and more people will come to the golf course with their
golf shoes laced up and their clubs ready for action.
While our country club grows with new members and continues to
produce increasing amounts of public play, the number of golfers on
the course at one time will also increase. This is without a doubt a very
good scenario to be in but we must also make sure that we can all
have satisfactory rounds and enjoy our time here at the club.
In the last month, the golf operations have come together to discuss
properly enforcing the Pace of Play Policy. In a perfect world, all golf
rounds are to be completed at a four-hour pace pending course
conditions. Page three of the guidelines and schedule booklet shows a
hole-by-hole pace of play chart, which will help golfers better
understand how to complete each hole within an acceptable pace.
Rangers and starters have been urged to enforce this policy.
Remember, the easiest way to stay on pace is to stay directly behind
the group in front of you, not ahead of the group behind you. If a group
falls out of position, the ranger first will nicely inform the group of where
they are and where they should be and allow them a hole or two to get
back on pace.
If a second warning is needed, the ranger will then firmly inform the
group that this is the second warning issued and the group will have
one hole to get back in the proper position. The ranger will also notify
the group that if they don’t get back to the proper position within the
next hole, they will be asked to skip a hole to get back in position.
We hope that by enforcing this policy, it will make everyone’s round a
more timely and enjoyable one. We look forward to another wonderful
year and are excited about starting things off on the right foot.
